It’s National Hot Chocolate Day!!
How do you enjoy your Hot Chocolate? Sweet or rich with melted solid chocolate? Spicy, with whip cream or with marshmallows
It’s very important when you buy Hot chocolate either in a cafe or as chocolate mix to ask and read about the ingredients
Any good hot chocolate mix, shouldn’t have more than 2-3 ingredients all that you understand
Also if you are buying a cup of hot Chocolate or mocha from a cafe ask what they use, most places use Chocolate syrup, which is full of sugar and fats and very less Cacao, hence the overwhelming sweetness!! Always know what is in the food
Me personally I love making my own Hot Chocolate ( Chocolat Chaud )
Chocolat Chaud
Always use real chocolate and pure chocolate powder to get the richest cup of Hot Chocolate
Here is a basic recipe:
For 2 servings:
2 cups milk
2 tablespoons cocoa powder or mix
2 tablespoons granulated sugar (optional)
4oz of chocolate chunk (high quality chocolate bar chopped)
⅛ teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
For 1 single serving:
1 cup milk
1 tablespoon cocoa powder or mix
1 tablespoon granulated sugar (optional)
2oz of chocolate chunk (high quality chocolate bar chopped)
1-2 drops vanilla extract (optional)
Method
Start with chopping your chocolate bar
Place the milk of your choice in a saucepan over medium-low heat. Or milk alternatives (Almond, oat)
Whisk in cocoa mix and sugar ( if wanted more sweet), and heat until warm.
Once the milk is warm, add chocolate chunks, whisking until they melt into the milk.
Add a splash of vanilla extract.
If like it to be thicker add a teaspoon of corn starch mix it with the milk, if you like it spicy add 1/8 teaspoon of cayenne pepper and cinnamon
serve immediately!
Top it with your favorite topping, whip cream, marshmallows, extra chocolate shavings, sprinkles - too many options
